IFCO Responds to Person in Distress

AUGUST 23 - On Monday, August 23rd Utility 13 and Bedford Village FD (Rescue 44 and Row Boat) responded to a report of a person floating on a mattress in the area of Lieto Drive. Homeowners at Diplomat Towers reported seeing people possibly floating on a mattress in the lake next to the Metro North Railroad. Training: Car Fires and Extrications

AUGUST 17 - On Tuesday August 17th the Independent Fire Co. and the Rescue Fire Police held a joint drill on car extrication and car fire operations at the Mount Kisco DPW. This drill consisted of using extrication equipment: Jaws of Life, cutters, and spreaders. Firefighters also learned how to properly crib and stabilize a car to extricate a patient. MKFD Responds to Working Fire in Katonah

AUGUST 10 - On Wednesday, August 11th the MKFD was dispatched along with the Katonah and Bedford Hills Fire Departments to 13 Fisher Lane in Katonah for a working house fire. The fire had initially started as a kitchen fire while the homeowner was home with her son. The homeowner evacuated her home and called the Bedford Police on her cell phone. MKFD Marches in Bedford Village FD Parade

JULY 30 - On Friday, July 30th the MKFD marched in the Bedford Village Fire Department's Annual Firemen's Parade. This parade was also the last parade of the MKFD's parade season. Again the MKFD proved successful in their marching. From the Bedford Parade the MKFD won Best Jr. Drum Corp., Best Tower Ladder (Tower Ladder 14), and Best Regulation Fire Department. MKFD Responds to Bedford for Working Fire

JULY 09 - On the evening of Friday July 9th not to long after the MKFD Parade the MKFD was diapatched to respond with our FAST Team (Firefighter Assist and Search Team) to a working fire at 91 Hickory Lane in Bedford. On arrival of the first incoming units the house was fully involved with flames and only a couple of walls were standing. Background:

The Independent Fire Company is an all-volunteer fire company with approximately 65 members. The company is one of four that make up the Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department. The other three companies are the Union Hook & Ladder Co #1, Mutual Engine & Hose Co #1 and the Mount Kisco Rescue & Fire Police.
 
The Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department covers approximately 3 square miles, half of which in the Town / Village of Mount Kisco proper, and the other half is made up of sections of the Town of New Castle and the Town of Bedford. The M.K.F.D. protects a population of approximately 18,000 people.
